Silence Fuels the Fire

Writer: Ella DanielsElla Daniels

How many more children have to die before the world decides Palestinian lives matter? How many more hospitals need to be bombed; how many families need to be wiped out before the world and international community does something beyond empty words?

The reality is, when it comes to Israel, international law is nothing more than a fake set of principles to preference and bring up in public, but never actually enforce. Even when a “ceasefire” has been promised….

The International Court of Justice’s ruling on genocide accusations against Israel was nothing but a pat on the back to dismiss concerns. These concerns told Israel to prevent destructive acts while conveniently avoiding the one thing that could actually stop the bloodshed: a ceasefire. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court’s investigation into war crimes is as slow as a snail’s pace, conveniently stalled by U.S. and European pressure. These institutions claim to stand for justice, yet they don’t do anything to end corruption and unfairness.

And the United States? It’s not just another country silent, it’s fueling the fire. Trump was already bad for the Middle East, but his latest ideas are even worse. His past actions, like recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, cutting aid for Palestinian refugees, and normalizing ties between Israel and Arab states without addressing Palestinian concerns,

only made Israeli aggression worse. And now, he’s suggesting that the U.S. should take over Gaza.

Yes. You read that right. He wants America to own Gaza, as if it’s some piece of real estate up for grabs-- as if the Palestinian people are just background characters in his political

theater.

Not only is this idea insensitive, but it’s also an endorsement of ethnic cleansing. Egypt, Jordan, and even U.S. citizens have dismissed it as insane, but the fact that it’s even being floated shows the complete disregard for Palestinian lives. And let’s not forget the nearly $3

billion in weapons the U.S. is rushing to send Israel: bombs, warheads, and ammunition that will directly contribute to more Palestinian deaths. It’s not defense. It’s destruction and American taxpayers fund it.

Here’s the truth no one in DC wants to admit: it’s not just Trump. Biden might throw out softer language, but the money, the weapons, and the political cover for Israel were also happening under his leadership. The U.S. has backed Israel unconditionally for decades, despite its blatant war crimes. American leaders will complain and urge about human rights when it’s convenient in campaign trails, but when Palestinian children are being killed in their sleep, suddenly: it’s complicated.

What’s happening in Gaza isn’t war, it’s mass murder. The world is watching and the U.S. is making sure the bombs never stop falling. If international law doesn’t apply here, then what’s the point of having it at all?
